      San Rafael de Mucuchíes es una ciudad venezolana, ubicada en la región de los andes, en el Municipio Rangel del Estado Mérida, se encuentra a una altitud de 2.983 m.s.n.m. En esa localidad vive una raza de perros que sólo se encuentran en esa zona ya que es original, producto del cruce de lo que era el perro prehispánico con el Mastín del Pirineo, y de tal mezcla surgió esta raza. Es un canino de gran tamaño, peludo, tiene un espolón que lo caracteriza y distinto a los demás perros, es muy territorial y protector, generalmente son de color blanco con manchas negras o marrones. Este perro es muy parecido a los perros ovejeros, es dinámico, le gusta correr y descansar pero siempre está alerta.

San Rafael de Mucuchíes is a Venezuelan city, located in the region of the Andes, in the Municipality Rangel of the State Merida, is located at an altitude of 2,983 m.s.n.m. In this town lives a breed of dogs that are only found in that area since it is original, product of the crossing of what was the pre-Hispanic dog with the Mastiff of the Pyrenees, and from that mixture this breed arose. It is a large, hairy canine, has a spur that characterizes it and unlike other dogs, is very territorial and protective, they are usually white with black or brown spots. This dog is very similar to sheepdogs, is dynamic, likes to run and rest but is always alert.

      El Mucuchíes fue declarado como perro típico nacional de Venezuela el 31 de agosto de 1964, según un Decreto Presidencial establecido en la Gaceta Oficial Nº 27.530.

The Mucuchíes was declared as a typical national dog of Venezuela on August 31, 1964, according to a Presidential Decree established in the Official Gazette No. 27.530.

     El pasado 10 de junio de este año 2020, publiqué una interesante historia patriótica donde el protagonista fue un perro de esta raza llamado Nevado y que acompañó al Libertador Simón Bolívar y murió en la Batalla de Carabobo el 24 de junio de 1821.
